You can help yourself further by knowing where both your inside and outside stop taps are located, so that you can turn off the water until we arrive.
Usually your inside stop tap is under your kitchen sink at the back of the cupboard but may be somewhere else. You will need to turn this clockwise to turn off the water.
Your main outside stop tap is often outside at the front of the house and will have the word water on it or a W.
It is sometimes the case particularly on older rural houses that the outside stop tap is quite difficult to find and you may need to have a good look around to find it. If you still cant locate it you might have to contact your local water authority who will be able to find it for you.
I have known places where the outside stop tap is in a field a long way from the house but this is very rare.
